DIY Industrial Pipe Shelves

If you’ve ever spent time on Pinterest, you might be able to relate to the overwhelming feeling of not being that crafty or handy. Sometimes I find myself staring at a beautiful pin thinking is this a DIY project? I find myself thinking it would take days to complete, and still would not look anything close to the “pinned” project. I have good news! You are going to rock this project! You’ll earn major points with this one, and it makes a great gift (hint…Valentine’s Day is around the corner). What I love about these industrial-style shelves is they can be completely customized. You can choose any size wood planks. They look great in large and smaller spaces like the bathroom or laundry room. You can use a single shelve, layer on top or step layer with three or more. The wood can be stained any color, you could paint them your favorite color, or even distress them. All of the materials can be found at your local home improvement store. So, grab your creative side and head to the store.   For an 8” shelf you will want to purchase:
  • 2”x8” pine board
  • Two ¾” black pipe flanges
  • Two ¾”x8” threaded black pipe nipples
  • Two ¾” black pipe caps
  • Drywall screws
  Directions:
  • Cut board(s) to desired length(s)
  • Sand all edges and rough spots
  • Stain or paint the boards
  • Locate studs in wall
  • Attach the flanges to marked studs via the drywall screws
  • Screw the nipples into the flanges
  • Screw the caps onto the nipples
  • Set the planks on the hardware
  • Grab a beverage and pat yourself on the back.
