Color of the Year 2018-Oceanside

Who’s tired of the winter blues? As much as I enjoy sipping on a cup of chai tea in my over-sized knitted sweater and Minnetonka Moccasin slippers, I’m ready for the sunshine.  Nothing gets me in the mood more than hauling out the summer bins, spring cleaning and a fresh color on some fun home décor pieces (yes I am aware it is only February). If you don’t already have a piece in the house that could use a splash of color than hit the streets.  With the craze of DIY and used recycled pieces you can’t help but turn and find a great deal.  If you are a thrift shop junkie than you can certainly relate to the excitement and rush of the one weekend your favorite flea market (Rusty Rabbitique)  is open. Even if you are afraid of adding some color to your home, pick something small and start there.  You could go with the ‘gateway’ items like frames, chalkboard, single wood chair, stool, bench, etc. You get the jist. Now that you found your goods, let the fun begin.  Wash and clean up your lucky find (obviously) and use some baking soda if you need to rid off any funky smell.  Grab your sander or sandpaper (depending on the size of your item) and smooth it out. Remove any hardware and tape off anything that is not intended to be painted. With the appropriate brush, paint away. I am head over heals in love with Sherwin William’s color of the year 2018, Oceanside. If you have chosen an item with knobs, find some new funky ones. If you have drawers line them with some funky shelf liner/contact paper. If you chose a bench, hit up your local fabric store and jazz it up.  Congratulations your home has some new flavor in it with an Oceanside piece for 2018!
